About the EXIF Metadata Viewer & Scrubber

Every photo your phone or camera takes carries hidden metadata called EXIF — and it often includes the exact GPS coordinates where the picture was shot, the date and time, your camera or phone model, and editing software. When you post or send a photo, that data can travel with it. This tool shows you exactly what's hidden inside an image, then strips it out so the version you share reveals nothing but the picture.

It all happens on your device. Your photos are never uploaded, never stored on a server, and never logged — which is the whole point of a privacy tool.

What it does

• Reveals the metadata. See GPS location (with a map link), camera make and model, lens, exposure settings, and capture date — plus whether XMP or IPTC data is present.
• Strips it losslessly. For JPEG, PNG, and WebP, the metadata segments are removed without touching the compressed image data, so there is no quality loss and the file usually gets a little smaller.
• Keeps your colors. The ICC color profile and basic image headers are preserved, so the cleaned photo looks identical.
• Works in batch. Drop a whole folder, review each photo's hidden data, and download everything cleaned as a ZIP.

Why remove EXIF?

• Location privacy. Photos taken at home, school, or work can pin your address to anyone who downloads them.
• Anonymity. Camera serial numbers and software fields can link separate photos to the same device.
• Clean uploads. Marketplaces, dating profiles, forums, and resumes don't need your GPS trail attached.
• Smaller files. Stripping metadata shaves a little off every image with no visible change.

Good to know

• Removal is lossless for JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Other formats fall back to a clean re-encode that also removes metadata.
• The viewer reads the most common and privacy-relevant EXIF tags; some cameras store extra proprietary fields, which are also removed even if not displayed.
• Orientation is stored in EXIF too — after stripping, a few apps may show a rotated photo. If that happens, rotate it once with the Image Cropper and re-save.
