About the Image Compressor

Image Compressor shrinks JPG, PNG, and WebP files to a fraction of their original size while keeping them looking great. Drop one image or a hundred — quality, format, and dimensions are all under your control, and the tool flags exactly how many bytes you saved on each file.

Everything happens inside your browser. Your photos are never uploaded, never queued on a server, and never logged. Close the tab and they're gone — that's why screenshots, ID scans, product shots, and anything else sensitive are safe to run through it.

What you can control

• Output format: Auto keeps each file's original type, or force everything to JPG, PNG, or WebP.
• Quality slider (1–100): Drives JPG and WebP compression. The 75–85 range is usually the sweet spot — visually identical, dramatically smaller.
• Max dimensions: Set a width and/or height ceiling in pixels and the tool resizes while preserving aspect ratio. Smaller files get even smaller; larger files get downsized automatically.
• Strip metadata (EXIF): Removes camera info, GPS location, timestamps, and edit history — great for privacy and for shaving extra kilobytes.
• Only save if smaller: Skips files where compression would actually make them bigger, so already-optimized images pass through untouched.
• Batch processing: Compress dozens of images in one pass and download them individually or as a single ZIP.
• Before/After compare slider: Drag to see exactly what each compression setting did to a chosen image.

Tips for the best results

• Start at quality 80 — most images look indistinguishable from the original at that setting.
• Use WebP when you can. It typically delivers 25–35% smaller files than JPG at the same visual quality.
• Keep PNG for graphics, logos, and anything with transparency. Force-converting them to JPG kills the transparent background.
• For web use, capping the longest edge at 1920 px is plenty — most screens never render larger anyway.
• Leave "Only save if smaller" on by default. It prevents the tool from accidentally enlarging files that were already well-optimized.
• Stripping EXIF is a quick privacy win — especially before sharing photos taken on a phone.
