About the Background Remover
The Background Remover takes a photo and gives you back a clean transparent PNG of the subject. Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP and an AI model running directly in your browser separates the foreground from the background, leaving a cutout you can drop straight onto a product page, a slide, or a new background of your choice.
The whole process happens on your device. Your image is never uploaded, never queued on a server, and never logged. The model itself downloads once (about 4.5 MB) and then runs locally on every photo after that, so it keeps working offline once cached and stays private by construction.
What you can control
- Image in. Drag and drop or browse — JPG, PNG, and WebP up to roughly 4096 × 4096 pixels are handled comfortably. Larger images still work but take longer.
- Background out. The default output is a transparent PNG. You can also drop the cutout onto a swatch of white, black, teal, gold, deep blue, coral, or any custom color picked from the color wheel.
- Side-by-side preview. The original and the result render next to each other, with a checkerboard behind the cutout so you can see exactly where the edges fall.
- Original resolution. The mask is produced at the model's native size and then upsampled to the original image dimensions, so the file you download matches the resolution you started with.
- Swap without reprocessing. Try different background colors instantly — the cutout itself is cached, so only the final composite is redrawn.
Common uses
- Pull a product off a busy shelf photo for an e-commerce listing or a marketplace post.
- Make a profile picture with a brand-colored background for a chat app, a directory, or a press kit.
- Isolate a person or pet from a snapshot for a greeting card, an invite, or a meme.
- Turn a logo or signature photographed on paper into a transparent PNG ready to drop into a document.
- Build a quick mockup by cutting an object out of one photo and dropping it onto a different background.
- Strip the background from a screenshot before adding it to a slide deck or a marketing graphic.
Tips
- The first image you process triggers a one-time ~4.5 MB model download. Every photo after that starts instantly because the model is cached by the browser.
- Good lighting and clear subject-to-background contrast give the cleanest cutout. Soft hair, lace, and chain-link edges are the hardest cases for any in-browser model.
- Keep the output as PNG to preserve transparency. JPG would flatten the image onto a solid color and discard the alpha channel entirely.
- When a single subject sits prominently in the frame, the model finds it reliably. Multiple overlapping subjects or very busy backgrounds may need a touch-up afterward.
- If you want a circular profile picture, a rounded card, or a custom border, run the cutout through the Image Cropper next.
Everything works without an account, without a watermark, and without uploading your photo to a server you do not control.
Common questions
How do I remove the background from an image for free?
Drop your photo onto the tool and the AI cuts out the subject automatically, giving you a transparent PNG to download. No sign-up, no watermark, and no credit system counting your images.
Why is there no watermark?
The well-known background sites run their AI on paid servers, so they meter free users with watermarks and low-resolution downloads. Here the AI model runs on your own device, so there is nothing to meter: full resolution and clean output, free.
Is it safe to remove backgrounds from personal photos online?
Here, yes, because the photo never goes online. The AI model downloads to your browser and does the cutout on your machine, so headshots and family photos stay yours.
How do I make a product photo with a white background?
Remove the background first to get a transparent PNG, then place it on a white canvas with our image cropper or any editor. Marketplaces like Amazon and Etsy expect exactly this kind of clean cutout.
What image formats work, and what do I get back?
Drop in JPG, PNG, or WebP photos and download a PNG with true transparency, ready to layer onto any background or design.
