Instagram does not support GIF files. If you try to post a .gif to your feed, story, or reel, it either gets rejected or flattened into a single still frame, and the animation is lost. How it works

Good to know

• MP4 does not loop on its own the way a GIF does. The whole animation is in the file; to get the endless-loop feel, set your video player or the platform you post to, to loop. Most short-video feeds loop automatically.
• MP4 has no transparency. Where your GIF is see-through, the chosen background color (white or black) shows instead. Fully opaque GIFs are unaffected.
• The exact per-frame delays from the GIF are preserved, so variable-speed GIFs convert faithfully.
